Spice Mine

Stands in the middle of the canyon's blue lava river and pulls spice out of the current. Spice is the colony's most valuable material.

Spice mechanic

Spice is the most valuable material in District Null. It goes into plasma steel, the access towers to the upper level, power plant upgrades and many research projects. The Spice Mine stands in the middle of the canyon's blue lava river and pulls the spice out of the current with a huge vortex.

The mine stands on a platform on masts above the river. A honeycomb fence with lights runs all around, and workers kneel on the platform to service the plant.

Unlocking and building

You can build it as soon as your Kryptonite Mines have mined 5 t of Kryptonite together. It costs 7,000,000 $, 3,000 t of metal and 400 t of Kryptonite. It only fits into the river, and a road may be at most 8 tiles away.

  • At full load it pulls 10 t of spice per hour and needs 12 MW. After the inauguration it starts at 1 % load.
  • You can build several Spice Mines. At least 15 tiles stay free between two mines.
  • Up to your 10th Spice Mine you pay the normal price. Every further one costs more.
  • The hover truck only moves the mine to another spot in the river (Relocation).
  • Rarely you find a Plasma Core or an Energy Crystal. You need plasma cores for the highest upgrade levels.

Upgrades

Level 2 doubles the output. It is unlocked through research. Fence and lights show the level: green at level 1, blue at level 2.

Operation pauses during the upgrade. Costs apply to the upgrade to that level. Some levels are only unlocked by research in the Research Lab.
