Discontent
What makes your residents discontent, how to spot it and why crime goes up as a result.
Older woman
Every residential area has a discontent value. It is made up of five reasons:
| Reason | Weight |
|---|---|
| High taxes | heavy |
| Unemployment | heavy |
| Overtime | medium |
| Long commute and jams | medium |
| Bad air | light |
What discontent does
- More crime: discontent people are more likely to break the law. Domestic cases and shoplifting in particular shoot up (Crime).
- The characters of residential houses tell you clearly when they are not doing well.
How to spot it
- The police window shows the discontent in its area as a percentage, with the biggest reason.
- The field info shows the partial values behind it.
What helps
- lower the tax rate (Taxes)
- create jobs or, in case of overtime, more housing (Jobs and Unemployment)
- shorten trips, reduce jams, use buses (Commuting and the Way to Work)
- keep industry away from housing and build parks (Smog and Air)
