Playing on your phone

How to control District Null with your fingers: tap, swipe, zoom, rotate and build.

Gamer

On phone and tablet you play the same city as on PC, just with your fingers. Hold the device sideways. There is no portrait mode, not even on a tablet.

The gestures

GestureWhat happens
Taplike a click: selects a building, a field or a button
Swipe with one fingermoves the camera across the city
Spread or pinch two fingerszooms in and out
Move two fingers sidewaysrotates the view
Move two fingers up or downtilts the camera

If your finger slides a little while tapping, it becomes a swipe. So tap short and steady.

You do not need long presses or double taps. What appears on PC when you hover with the mouse, you see after a tap. If a tile is grey, a message tells you why.

Building with your fingers

  1. Open the build menu and tap a building.
  2. Tap the spot where it should stand. The hint line shows the costs or why it does not fit there.
  3. If you need a better view, keep moving and zooming with two fingers. If your finger rests briefly at the edge of the screen, the camera follows.

You drag roads and areas with one finger. You confirm an area with ✓, ✕ cancels. If you put down a second finger while dragging, the drag stops and you move the camera again.

Small screens

On small phones the display moves closer together so you see as much of your city as possible.

Loading and data

On a phone the game starts with smaller videos so it loads fast and uses little data. On Wi-Fi it loads the HD version by itself, on mobile data and in data saver mode it stays with the small one. Below the loading bar you can switch yourself. The language you play in loads automatically.

More about the displays in the game is under Controls and Displays.
