Pig Iron Mine
Where all production starts. The mine at the cliff face delivers pig iron and, once upgraded, chrome ore and cobalt ore.
Nothing runs in District Null without pig iron. The Blast Furnace turns it into metal, and metal goes into almost every building, every upgrade and every vehicle of your services. That makes the Pig Iron Mine the first production building you build.

A spot at the cliff face
The mine can only stand right at the cliff face in the north of your city. It sits a little lower in its own pit with a honeycomb fence along the edge. Keep the space in front of it free for a road, because the mine may be at most 6 tiles away from one.
- You can build Pig Iron Mines along the whole slope. At least 15 tiles stay free between two mines.
- Up to your 10th mine you pay the normal price. Every further one costs more.
- If a mine sits badly, the hover truck moves it, but only to another spot on the cliff face (Relocation).
Setting the load
After the inauguration the mine runs at 1 % load. At full load it digs 300 t of pig iron per hour, so at 1 % that is roughly one ton every 20 minutes. More load brings more pig iron but costs more wages and more power. At full load you pay 5,000 $ in wages per hour and need 3 MW. Only raise the load as far as your power grid and your treasury can handle.
- The mine has a small storage of its own for each resource. When it is full and no Storage has a free slot for pig iron, digging stops.
- The blast furnace needs 2 t of pig iron for 1 t of metal. A mine at 1 % matches a blast furnace at 2 % nicely.
- The mine causes some smog. Do not put open or dense districts right next to it.
Upgrades
Level 2 adds a chrome ore line, level 3 a cobalt ore line. The veins in the rock show the ore: they turn copper green and later cobalt blue. You need chrome ore and cobalt ore for chrome steel and cobalt alloy, which the late upgrades require.
The light shows the level itself. The train, the beams from the tunnels and the small logo on the three wagons glow green for level 1, blue for level 2 and purple for level 3.

Operation pauses during the upgrade. Costs apply to the upgrade to that level. Some levels are only unlocked by research in the Research Lab.
