Endless, Season and free play: which cities exist, how many slots you get and what happens to a season city when the season ends.
The city selection shows the game modes along the top. Each mode has its own city slots and its own color.

Endless
The classic city. It runs in real time and forever. Without Premium you get 3 slots, with Premium 6. Only endless cities appear in the endless ranking.
Season
A season has a name, a start and an end. When you found the city you choose the speed: Real time, Fast or Light (Speed: Real Time, Fast and Light). The speed stays fixed afterwards because the season ranking only compares cities with the same speed. Population, taxes per game day and the technology score count (Rankings).
After the season ends, your season city is converted into an endless city with real time, as soon as an endless slot is free. If none is free, the city waits frozen. You then have one month to make room. After that the city expires. A converted city never enters the endless ranking, but it keeps the badge of its season.
Free play
Free cities are for trying things out. You pick the speed at founding and the city is in no ranking. You always have one free slot, Premium adds more.
Multi
The shared planet for many players is still locked. More under The Multiplayer Planet.
Deleting cities
You can delete any city. To be safe, you type in the population shown in the dialog. Urplasma you spent in that city is not refunded.
