Fire Department

Fire engine Hydra, hazmat truck Kobalt and firefighting helicopter Libelle: how the fire department puts out fires and why speed is everything.

Fire chief

The fire department lowers fire risk within its reach. How well it protects a tile depends above all on how fast it gets there. The building is under Fire Station.

Construction

The fire station costs 700,000 $ and 40 metal and needs 1 MW of power while running. Running costs start at 111 $ per hour with one crewed fire engine, with the starting setup they come to 194 $.

The crew comes with the vehicle, you only choose the vehicles. A hazmat truck also costs 80 chrome steel, a firefighting helicopter 150 chrome steel and 50 cobalt alloy.

Industry needs hazmat trucks

Only the hazmat truck can fight industrial fires. Without one your industry has no fire protection at all. In return, every crewed hazmat truck gives the industrial tiles in its service area +5 points of district value, at most +10.

Speed is everything

The vehicles drive on your roads. Traffic jams slow them down, even when they weave through with sirens on. The response target is 10 minutes. Anything later is logged as "too late at the scene". The firefighting helicopter flies in a straight line over any jam and is much faster over long distances.

Reach

With the first crewed fire engine the station reaches 30 tiles. Every further fire engine adds +5, every hazmat truck +5, every helicopter +10 tiles. Premium adds 25%. Good roads allow a large reach, with heavy traffic you are better off shrinking it.

What a fire looks like

When a building burns, flames burst from the windows and thick smoke rises. A small fire can grow into a full blaze or a roof fire if the fire department takes too long. In industry some fires burn green or blue. Those are chemical fires that call for the hazmat truck. If people are hurt, an ambulance comes along.
