DeutschUpgrades and Levels
Which buildings you can upgrade, what each level costs and which research you need first.
Many buildings grow with you. An upgrade does not just change the numbers, you can see it too. The blast furnace, raw iron mine, kryptonite mine and spice mine show their level with light in a fixed colour:

On the blast furnace the LED ring on the chimney glows, on the raw iron mine the train and the tunnel, on the kryptonite mine the band along the edge and on the spice mine the masts and the fence. The colour of fire and ore shows what is being made right now.
Before the upgrade
When you click Upgrade, the game asks once more. On the left you see the current level, a purple arrow points to the new level in its colour. Below it you see what the upgrade brings, what it costs, how much of it you already have and how long it takes. Only Upgrade now starts it, Cancel leaves everything as it is.

The research lab and the university have levels of their own (Research Lab, University).
Research first
Almost every upgrade has to be unlocked in the research network first. The exception is the colonial license: you may upgrade pig iron mine and blast furnace up to level 2 without research. If research is missing, the window shows "Research first" with the required node.

During the upgrade
Operation pauses while the upgrade runs. Plan it so that you do not run short of power or metal while the building stands still.
