The Research Network
All research of the lab in six branches: permanent bonuses, unlocks for upgrades and plasma synthesis.
Scientist
In the research lab you research permanent improvements for your city. Almost every building upgrade has to be unlocked here first. Open the network in the lab window with "Open research network".
The rules
- A lab is required. It is a major project and needs at least 8,000 residents (Steps 24 to 29: Big Goals).
- One research slot, with Premium 2. So only one research runs at a time, two at once with Premium.
- Every node has requirements: predecessors at a minimum level and a minimum lab level. Lines in the network show what depends on what.
- Every level costs more than the one before and takes longer. Even the first level takes days.
- Colonial license: you may upgrade pig iron mine and blast furnace up to level 2 without research.

Separate from this
- The overdrive protocols are short-term boosts with their own slot.
- The student projects of the university also only last a week.
- The data center (VIP) regularly cuts a little off running research.
